Recently, I the pleasure of creating a whimsical winter wonderland-themed cake smash session for sweet baby Raegan. Tips for a Successful Cake Smash Session

As any photographer will tell you, there are a few important things to keep in mind when planning a cake smash session. First of all, and most importantly, I let baby lead the show. By reading the mood of the baby, I can adjust my approach to ensure the little one feels comfortable throughout the photo session.

It’s also important to remember that not all babies like cake. To avoid any potential problems or reactions, it’s a good idea to give your baby a cupcake or piece of cake beforehand to make sure they don’t have any negative reactions to the ingredients. Additionally, I recommend that parents don’t try to force the baby to touch the cake as this can often result in upsetting the baby and making them unable to reset for more photos. By following these tips, you can ensure that your baby’s cake smash photo session goes off without a hitch.

When a Cake Smash Goes Arwy

It’s not uncommon for babies to get overwhelmed during their cake smash session. Babies don’t always adjust well to change, and a new environment can be stressful. As a result, a cake smash session can quickly turn into a stressful situation if your little one isn’t feeling it.

When this happens, it’s important to remain calm and reassess the situation. Don’t pressure your baby to participate if they don’t want to – a photo session should always be a positive experience. If your baby is upset, take a break and try again another time.

Sweet Raegan was an example of this. She wasn’t having her first cake smash session, so we decided to reschedule for another day. The second time around she was much happier, resulting in beautiful photos.

If you find yourself in this situation, don’t be discouraged! Taking a break and trying again at a later date can help make the session more enjoyable and successful. A little patience and understanding can go a long way when dealing with babies who don’t seem interested in a cake smash!
